Device Essentials

BUILD CONFIDENCE WITH THE DEVICES USED EVERY DAY

Device Essentials is a practical learning pathway for adults 55+ who want to feel more comfortable using smartphones and tablets. Communities may select one workshop or combine several sessions into a focused learning journey.

FIVE PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS:

  1. SMARTPHONE BASICS
Learn essential smartphone controls and navigation. Participants practice tapping, swiping, charging, adjusting volume, opening apps, using menus, and understanding notifications.

  2. CALLING & TEXTING
Learn to make and receive calls, create contacts, and send messages. Participants also practice useful calling features and learn how to recognize suspicious callers.

  3. APPS & APP STORES
Understand what apps do and how they can help. Participants practice safely finding, downloading, updating, organizing, and removing apps.

  4. DEVICE SETTINGS
Make a phone or tablet easier to use. Participants adjust text size, brightness, sound, notifications, privacy, Wi-Fi, and helpful accessibility features.

  5. GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR TABLET
Learn the everyday controls of an iPad or tablet. Participants practice navigating the screen, opening apps, connecting to Wi-Fi, and personalizing the device.

ONE WORKSHOP. TWO VALUABLE EXPERIENCES:

  1. EDUCATION
Every session uses clear instruction, patient demonstrations, accessible materials, and guided hands-on practice.

  2. PRACTICAL TECH SUPPORT
Time is also reserved for simple questions involving participants’ own smartphones, tablets, email, apps, settings, passwords, photos, and other everyday technology concerns.
