Health, Travel & Independence

THE INDEPENDENCE PATHWAY FOR HEALTH, TRAVEL, AND EVERYDAY LIFE

Technology can make it easier to manage healthcare, navigate unfamiliar places, arrange transportation, plan trips, and access everyday services. Health, Travel & Independence gives adults 55+ practical skills for using these tools with greater confidence and safety.

 Independence. Convenience. Safer decisions.

WHY THIS LEARNING PATHWAY MATTERS

Everyday digital services can support independence—but only when residents understand how to use them and protect their personal information. These workshops provide patient instruction, realistic practice, and simple safety habits.

SIX PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS:

  1. USING MAPS & NAVIGATION - Search for locations, compare routes, follow turn-by-turn directions, save favorite places, and explore traffic or nearby services safely.

  2. ONLINE HEALTH & TELEHEALTH - Prepare for virtual appointments, join secure visits, use camera and microphone controls, and protect private health information.

  3. USING PATIENT PORTALS
View appointments, test results, messages, prescription refills, forms, and other common portal features while communicating securely with a care team.

  4. TRANSPORTATION & RIDE-SHARING APPS
Request rides safely while reviewing destinations, driver details, vehicles, estimated costs, pickup procedures, and important safety steps.

  5. TRAVEL PLANNING WITH TECHNOLOGY
Research destinations, compare travel options, organize confirmations, use helpful apps, and recognize common booking scams.

  6. ONLINE GROCERY SHOPPING & FOOD DELIVERY
Build and review orders while understanding substitutions, fees, tips, payments, pickup, delivery, and order accuracy.

ONE WORKSHOP. TWO VALUABLE EXPERIENCES:

  1. EDUCATION
Clear instruction, patient demonstrations, accessible materials, and guided practice help residents use everyday digital services more independently and safely.

  2. PRACTICAL TECH SUPPORT
Time is also reserved for simple questions involving smartphones, tablets, email, apps, settings, passwords, photos, and other everyday technology concerns.
